That's a _good_ question, and one I and the other hams at work
(WeBuildHighways) were discussing. Jim WB5UDE said that it happened to him
gradually. Recently he found that he had been tracking a long rag-chew that
he was tuned to, but not taking part in, to the point that when he sat down
to join in, he was up to speed on the context and ready to carry on the
conversation.

He called it "being in the zone", and I understand what he means: there are
counterparts in target shooting and other pursuits. It happens gradually in
those fields, and I don't see why CW comprehension should be any different.

I'm not there yet, but I'm still working very hard to get above 8 WPM, and
I'm very grateful indeed to the hams that put up with this slow-code Extra.
