You're taking this WAY too seriously, David.
SKN was "invented" by ARRL about 15 years ago as a nostalgic "Auld Lang
Zyne" way to get everyone to put away their electronic keyer/keyboard for
an evening, and since it's their party they get to make the rules.
Almost 50 years ago I learned how to use a Vibroplex (my career depended on
it) and I've never looked back. Nice that you enjoy sending up-and-down,
but quite honestly I really don't give a rip what the Brits allowed or
didn't allow their operators to use, and on SKN you'll just need to give
the big black knob another spin if you dislike the swing of my bug.
