I agree let's lighten this thread up a little no need to
be sarcastic to anyone.
All kidding aside as an accurate answer to your question
read the following and see the purpose behind the contest
itself.
I think your probably right about it not being technically
acceptable.

Whatever you do with it, be there and have fun with it. If
I have a chance to be in it and give you a contact.
My son and I made a straight key last year from some junk
parts I had in a butterbowl I have my "never throw away"
stuff in.
It's easy to do.
I think the coolest straight key I ever saw was made from
two paperclips mounted to a piece of wood and wire tied to
a short length of zip cord and sent to the key input of
the radio through a 1/4" phono plug.
Remember it's all in the wrist.
Not the fingers or the elbow :0)
Although it helps if you have all three.
