Ed...
That is a GREAT find and it is much different than I imagined reading your
announcement...
I had a set of two similar learning toys...IIRC they were ABS plastic, dark
brown or black and were powered by two C-cells...International code
characters imprinted on front next to key lever...Mail order from maybe
cereal box offer...Also, IIRC, you could wire them in parallel via a twisted
pair and transmit messages back and forth between the two units, buzzer and
flashlight bulb working together...That was sometime in the early
Fifties...Next up was Boy Scout Merit Badge with homemade strap key tied to
a Knight Kit transistorized CPO somewhere along about '56 or '57...Then
things got serious and rode bicycle to local radio parts store and purchased
first real key, which I still have today: E.F. Johnson Speed-X...The one
with the black wrinkle rectangular base, large diameter contacts and skirted
knob...Up until about two years ago, my favorite hand key among the few in
my working collection...Now, prefer the Navy flameproof -26003A I acquired
awhile back...What a wonderful hand key for tireless (well, almost) sending.
Nice find and thanks for sharing...
Tnx for the memories es 73, Ed.
