I agree - and that's *exactly* what DST is for!

If we left the clocks alone year 'round, we'd gain and lose daylight in fairly equal amounts in both morning and afternoon. But since most people have to live by the clock and not by the sun, getting up at 4:00 AM to enjoy midsummer daylight is not the same as having the same amount of daylight added to the end of the day. 

By springing forward and falling back, we put that extra summer daylight in the evening rather than the morning. And we can leave our schedules alone year round. That's all DST really does.

btw, the whole concept of "Standard Time" came from railroads, who had to have all their clocks agree, back in the days when all trains ran on timetable and train-order authority.
