This discussion isn't complete without mention of James
Thurber's observation on Daylight Saving Time.
But unfortunately I can't find it at the moment-- so I'll
have to quote it from memory.
In I-forget-which of his short stories, he was discoursing
about the caliber of state legislators sent from the farm
districts of his native Ohio in the early part of the 20th
century:
"They may have rolled their socks down over their shoetops and
fanned their soup with their hats, but they had enough good
old-fashioned horse-sense to know that Daylight Saving Time is
Satan's own handiwork and that its advocates would rot forever
in Hell." --James Thurber
