A recent offering, which focusses more on landline than CW, is"

Tom Standage (1998) "The Victorian Internet"

It is a pleasant read with fun factoids about the 19th century landline
telegraph. He looks for parallels between the modern hype over the
internat, e-mail & chat room subcultures, etc. and the landline telegraph.
But his research is not very in-depth, especially when it comes to post
1870s period where he gives short-schrift to the later landlines and
radiotelegraphy. In any case, it is still a fun read, and Standage has
admitted that he is not a historian, but rather a popular writer. So, with
that grain of salt, I highly recommend it as a fun book.
