Most people send a letter space.

The ITU is the official body that controls the allocation of Morse Code
symbols - they recently added a symbol for @, for example. (I've forgotton
what it is aleady, I just send "AT"!)
(It's .--.-.  I've just looked it up in the late and much lamnented
"Morsum Magnificat")
There is, or was, a list available on the ITU website, I think.

.---. is the symbol for Esperanto J-circumflex and Japanese "se"
