Even if you don't know American Morse, it's interesting that you can catch a 
few words because many of the letters are the same.  It wouldn't take long 
to catch on to it enough to make out most of  the message since some of the 
American Morse  letters have the same Morse character as a different letter 
in International morse - just mentally make the substitution.

Kind of reminds me of listening to a foreign language that is in the same 
family as another language you know, such as catching the gist of Spanish 
when you understand Italian or French, or Dutch when you understand German.
