The "Lake Erie Swing" was a particular and unique rythem used by shipboard
radio operators on merchant ships, usually ore carriers, that moved large
quantities of raw materials from the loading port to the unloading port;
usually a steel mill or smelter. For some reason, the Radio Operators on
these ships were so used to communicating with each other that they began to
sound alike! Hense the term "Lake Erie Swing". The term "Banana Boat Swing"
is the name of a intoxicating alcoholic beverage containing rum and fruit
such as bannanas and pineapple, etc. -73- Sherrill W. k4own.
