[CW] CHAD

Speaking of chad.   When I was first in the army, as a specialist fourth 
class, or maybe after I first made spec 5, I had a young (I was all of 20 maybe) 
pfc who sat "sidesaddle" with me.  In other words, I was copying code, and he 
attempted to copy the same signal on a second set of earphones.  e both were 
using Mills (the typewritter with ALL CAPS.  The paper was something like 5 or 6 
ply, with actual carbon paper between it.  The Mills were sprocket fed, and 
pulled paper thru the platen with sprockets which punched out semi-pre-punched 
holes along the side of the paper, thus creating chad out the nose.   

A couple of hours before the end of the shift, I told him "Please count the 
chad, since everything we do in here is top secret, we have to insure wehave 
collected all the chad and must sign for it before burning.  The guy spent the 
next two hours, carefully collecting every little piece of chad around/under 
and about our desk, and counting it   From that day on, he was known as "CHAD"
