John,
I think some BPL discussion deserves to be here on CW reflector, but I also
think that much discussion and work needs to be done and that an excellent
forum for BPL would be a reflector for it.
One thing that I have noticed - even though I admit it is extremly
frustrating - is that the patient, rational people are needed in the
discussion.
Even if I were very ignorant in this matter (which I am), and held a
contrary view to what really should be done to give everyone the very best,
calling me an IDIOT would be counterproductive.
Since I am already an IDIOT, but can't see it, anyone's calling me so would
only irritate me, and cause me to behave more like the IDIOT that I am.
That is one of the strangest parts of human nature - we don't see our short
comings - or if we do we rationalize and make things even worse.
If I saw that I was an IDIOT, I probably would think more before I spoke, I
would probably figure out that I couldn't put one plus one together and
always get two, I probably would irritate my friends, and kow-tow to my
enemies, give away my valuables to con-men, but refuse to be charatible to
those in my family who are in true need.
Basically I'd be a real mess. But being an IDIOT, I'd never see it.
Work needs to be done on BPL. I think it should protect the HF spectrum. I
also know that there are better ways to do wireless internet.
I have thought for quite a while that the NEXT big money making opportunity
would be "light piping" houses and businesses - furnishing all electronic
signals - telephone, TV, radio, internet, video, security systems - through
a fiber-optic connection. Sell it all, and charge by the "gallon" of what
is used.
If I had the resources, I would do this. I would START a company to do
this.
AT&T is close to this - but they seem to be abandoning this "sell all
services" concept, which I regret.
I'd love to have a small 10 mW radio transceiver that I could use on the
"ham bands" - but on fiber optic. That would be real fun for me.
CW without QSB ... nice.
