I also am in the process of learning (actually re-learning).  I am working my
own method of learning, but that is not as important, as from my limited
experience and much more reading I have learned that it is less the method you
use to learn and it has more to do with your desire to learn.

I have used 30wpm character speed at 15-20wpm overall speed.  I have not heard
about a barrier at 20wpm if you keep a sufficiently higher character speed. 
But in the end I recognize that I am speaking from a point of learning like
yourself.  So I will sit back and wait for the voices of experience like you
are.
