To those who are gifted with perfect pitch the spot function may work.

I personally have had great difficulty since the inception of SSB
Transceivers and I must admit the Drake TR7 and now the SGC 2020 has
a much smaller foot print than my Valiant and HQ-170A.
The down side is I do not have an extra heat source on those cold
winter nights. ha ha

The old method of zero beating with the incoming signal was, in my
mind much simpler however I guess progress assumes everything is
better. (HA) ICOM you would think could have provided a simple push
and hold button while the signal is brought to zero beat, IMHO

There is a solution which gives reasonable results (for me at any rate)

Son of Zero Beat by Chuck Olson, WB9KZY of Jackson Harbor Press see
URL http://home.att.net/~jacksonharbor/zerobeat.htm

The added bonus is at Field Day it is an eye catcher with the
flashing lights, if you like that sort of thing. Or on the occasion
when you have visitors in the shack.

Oh there is one other thing, the price is very reasonable.
