Hi Folks -
My Yaesu FT-990 does a fine job in Full-Break-in mode. However, my
FT-100, which I returned to Yaesu, and my new FT-100D are terrible in
Full-Break-in mode. No, I don't hear relay noise but every time the rig
switches to RX between characters it "POPS!" So it sounds like an echo
of the side tone. The pops are loud and very distraction. I sent my
first FT-100 back to Yaesu to have that repaired and they kept the rig
for over a month and then told me that Yaesu in Japan said that that is
the way the rig is and it isn't broken! So they gave me two options: 1-
Take the radio back and use it as is. 2- They would return my money.
Seeing as the FT-100D had just come out a couple of weeks after I got my
FT-100 I opted to get my money back and ordered the new "and improved"
model FT-100D. The new rig pops just as bad as the old one but I have
gotten use to working in Semi-Breakin. That's my story on QSK. I
still like my FT-990 - it does all I ask of it. The FT-100D is great as
a mobile rig.
