You got it;  they have lost all interest in the CW mode,
evidently.  Wonder if Yaesu still has the CW tune button
on new rigs?  I found it handy on the 1000D I had for
a time.  

However,  I have a Fist "code buddy" just outside Tokyo
I am helping to learn both English and better CW skills .  We
try to meet on 21050 at 2300Z on Saturdays.  He certainly
enjoys CW and has CW friends in Japan as well,  so the
hams there,  at least some of them,  are interested in the mode.
