I made something simular years ago for a field day vertical which mounted
to a spare tire wheel at the top floor of a parking garage. I used 1"
wide copper bus bar, approx 1/8" thick as I recall, and bolted in the
shape of a square. Holes were drilled and tapped in the copper for 10-32
plated brass screws and compression ring terminals. Four radials for
each band were attached and layed out at 90 degrees with each other. The
radials were simply layed out on the concrete surface, and this
arrangement was used several times for field day over the years. One
braided copper strap connected the radial "ring" to the base of the
vertical with a stainless hose clamp. The wire was insulated and
stranded approx size 18 salvaged from a multiconductor control cable.
This made the lay out of the wires pretty "tame" and also easy to quickly
pick up.
