The kind of event your describing, is a all out nuclear conflict, in which
case you better add a good supply of arrows, survival books, and flint. Oh
yeah, get a religion and pray it never happens.
Have you thought about the fact that ,all modern generators use solid state
voltage regulators, so in your scenario, forget your backup generator
unless it's an old clunker with mechanical regulation.
Another solution, if your worried about absolute worst possible case, is
that you keep your small efficient CW station with solar panel in a
grounded sealed metal case, so will survive, no matter what.
