  Hello All,

Here are 4 email messages that make the point about growing up many time stronger
  than I can make it:

These are from moon bouncers, CW weak signal operators by necessity!

I recently was introduced to the program " EchoLink"....I've
decided to use this to assist in sked requests, since it sure beats
typing... The program does a number of things, but for this purpose
I will use it to replace MSN, AOL, ICQ...etc...so I'd ask those who have
me in their instant message programs give this a try instead.

I will have the program running when I am home & available
   to talk...

Arrrh now I know where everybody is ....
Crawl out of bed call CQ for ages in both European and US windows (from here)
and only ONE signal (VK4AFL) heard all weekend on 432.
    And it was not 'conditions'.
Why bother ???? At this rate I just may have to take skeds to have a QSO!

Hi Doug. I agree with you normally. The whole echolink concept is so anti
to everything about ham radio that I have refused to even try it.

That said, I do think that Brian's intended use of it is not so bad. He
only is using it to take sked requests. Clearly he cannot work stations all
over the world, reliably, to get their sked requests via RF, on a daily
basis. While echolink will allow him to do this, I don't see the attraction
     versus plain old email.

In fact, Brian, if you would create a simple form for people to set up their
email sked requests with, it would not be hard to create an automatic
parsing utility to extract them from the emails you receive and add them to
your sked list in the proper format.

In any case, congratulations Brian - I think you have found about the only
     valid use of echolink!

      Russ & Doug & others....

I can type messages (two fingers) slowly or I can talk on the phone.
I have a phone & I have my radio....I look at EchoLink as just that...a FREE
      phone.

For retired folks in nursing homes and who are restricted and cannot have
radio and/or antennas the Echolink to them must be a great thing.

When I first looked at the program, I had the same reaction as Doug...
I was shocked ! I didn't think the future to replace radio would come so
      quick..
there it was, looking me in the face. BUT, I decided to only view it as the
      two previous statements......

I would suggest we all enjoy amateur radio as long as we can and in
whatever form is possible and we do not force others to our ways of
      doing things or think patterns....

I am not after starting flame wars on this or any other reflector
nor do i want to upset anybody.
