[CW] cw service

Thanks, Larry.
I too, would like to have seen that happen. Now, just FYI, I am Advanced
Class. I would go for Extra, but I rather like
being in such a "priveleged" position of being the holder of a license
class which will never be issued again. I also understand that back in
the day when I took my advanced, the test for theory was much harder
than the Extra Test today.
Like you, I saw almost immediately that it would be " elitist" or at
least thout as being "elitist" but is it so much different (and let's
drop into our mutual Aviation Background for this, than my holding
ASEL, AMEL, Instrument Airplane, and Comml Priveleges. and being
fortunate enough at one time in my life to get a couple of type
ratings? I don't think anyone in the aviation community considers that
elitist, even though the "Com'l allows one to Charge for their services,
so why should any member of the Ham Group?). Like you, I also shoot
Highpower Rifle, and have a Fulton Armory rebuilt Peerless Grade M1
Garand, which they built on my old, shot out barrel one, the rifle
shoots like a laser beam, and I kept it in the "Ol Faithful of .30.06,
simply because I also have a bolt rifle, built on a '17 Enfield
Reciever, which also is "full up" and in .30.06 and I simply don't want
to make the mistake of forgetting that important 1/2 inch of cartridge
length someday by having 7.62 NATO and .308 around with the -06.the last
time I saw this happen, a guy happened to lose his right earlobe... I
don't think that Highpower shooters consider this elitist either, maybe
a little envious, but heck, who hasn't been envious of someone else's
tack driver. We've all seen better at matches (and been beat by them as
well --hi-- besides, I feel comfortable reloading the .30-06;;;;
Anyhow, I like your idea. There are those of us who used to do this
professionally (Radio), for me, it was in the Navy, and framkly, I am
proud of my speed, but like any good op, always replies to a contact
with the same speed it is sent to me. As for
a high speed CW portion, I would welcome it, as much as I wish the "CW
only" portions of the bands remain. Do I use digital, sure, Do I enjoy
using new modes of communication such as the vast array offered by
soundcards, sure I do, but it doesn't take away one iota of my enjoyment
in turning the bells and whistles off, and pounding brass, be it
straight key, :My Navy Presentation Lightning Bug, or my Vibrokeyer with
the ICOM 756PRO.
I feel that CW, since it has been an integral part of ham radio
since day one, should remain, if for no other reason than to maintain a
tradition that should be passed down to every new ham, as part of the
pleasurable initiation into the hobby/avocation.
Everything has been dumbed down too much. Again, with the aviation
analogy, we have all the NAVAIDS now speaking the id instead of the
good old morse identifiers, sad.......
73 es tnx for your great comments

C-182 RG pilot (most of the big pieces are present and operating --hi--)
(sadly, however, lost medical due to a closed head injury suffered in
'99, as the FAA takes a rather dim view of people who bust steering
wheels with their head, and then, after 4 years, occasionally have to
file IFR while moving around the house (The TV makes a great attitude
indicator, BTW, one KNOWS that's horizontal ROTFLMAO).
Have to get involved in IPSC!!!
