I remember reading the original article in QST  (or was it CQ?) many years ago.  That was during the days when the J-38 could be bought from surplus outlets for a few dollars each.  Have you seen the prices those things go for today?  You could buy a pretty good commercially made dual paddle for what you would pay for two J-38's @ what some people are asking for them today.  However, I bet the J-38 keyer has a better feel than some of the even very expensive commercial jobs.
