This past Xmas my xyl (KB4NPI) surprised me with a 5 shelf curio cabinet.
Not very expensive - it's mirrored & lighted, and stands about 6.5 ft tall. I had heavier
glass shelves made - 14"x16", about $20, to safely carry the weight of the
bugs. It keeps the dust off, and looks very nice at the end of the hallway.
My collection used to be strewn about in a couple closets, as well as on
a top bookshelf, and a couple out on the operating table. Hard to admire
them when they are hidden away. And if you're like me, you tend to forget
about things tuck away in the closet! Now they're all there in one place, and
if I take the notion, I can easily grab one and plug it in.
And as an added bonus, my youngest niece always wants me to turn the
cabinet light on when she comes to visit. She'll gaze into it for a long time,
and pick a favorite. I'll get it out and hook it up to a practice osc., and she'll
send E, T, and A - the 3 letters that she knows (for now). If not for the
display case, none of this would have happened.
So I highly recommend a showcase of some sort.
