The Koch method turned out much better code ops for the Germans in WW11 than
the Americans did. The Americans were happy if a student "graduated" with a
speed of 18-20 wpm. Of course, we were loosing the war at the time! It was
not uncommon for German ops to scoot along at 30-35 wpm.
But the Americans had bugs, and the Germans didn't - so we could send faster
than they could!
More recently the German First Class Telegraph called for 28 wpm English and
German text and 23 wpm Cipher groups, while the international requirement
for the First Class Telegraph license is only 25 wpm English and 20 wpm
cipher groups.
I still am looking for a recording of ANYONE sending with a hand key at 25
wpm or higher.
I have no takers yet, but I know it can be done because I've heard it and
seen someone do 35 wpm for a short period of time on a up and down hand key.
With a sideways hand key this is fairly easy. (Cootie or hacksaw type key)
