Consider the March key or the Kent. Kent $130-150. The regular March
iambic, with a round base, is about $225 or more, depending on the finish
and decoration (if any).
A new model, the March Vertical, was introduced at Dayton at $100 or so. I
bought one (today) at a hamfest from Mike March himself. Mine is serial #
003.
The Vertical looks a little like the Vibroplex Wire Chief (a very rare bug),
but this one is about half the height and is an iambic with magnets for the
"spring". It's very adjustable, with a light but snappy & clicky feel. It
feels a lot like the Kent iambic. You can adjust it to almost imperceptible
motion, and tilt the hand pieces to the left or right, for those that like
their keys tilted at an angle. It has a heavy base with a footprint of only
2x2 inches! Very cute.
Tried it out with my keyer - I am new to iambic action, but what a feel. It
is sweet!
I'd also recommend watching for a Brown Bros. key on E-bay. The Vibroplex
is fine. The Bencher is OK (as long as you never, never, never touch a Kent
;^)
