[CW] cw future

GA Dave and all,

Now, I have, when this discussion was being held before, written a few
"doomsday scenarios",
and got pretty much dismissed for the argument. This, however, is
exactly the point I was trying to
make.
I think the other valid point here that if we as a group, are NOT
trained in ALL modes of communication,
regardless if we use them or not, we are doing a disservice, not only to
ourselves, but to those who might
have to depend on our expertise in the future.
CW is just as important for this as any of the other modes, if not more
important. Yes, I have the capability
and equipment to work ALE, and do so on a regular basis. (I am using
this simply because it is, to me a "Gee Whiz "
mode, and I bring it forward for illustration). The fact remains
however, that this year, we have
seen a very active sun. There have been many days when a lot of
frequencies were simply unusable for any sort of
digital comms, yet, if CW was used on these very same frequencies, the
intelligibility would have been far better
than the best of the "Gee Whiz" equipment could accomplish.
The defining factor here is the adaptability of the "organic computer"
used to copy CW. It doesn't matter in the least
to our "organic computer" if the spacing is a little off, or the sending
speed changes, we can compensate and copy the
traffic, yet if there is a problem with any digital mode, one takes hits
and loses copy.
Unless we remain proficient in CW, along with keeping our other skills
intact, we are letting ourselves
down.
I agree 100 % with N1EA.
