There is a wonderful page about using the filters in a SSB mode that allows
for wider skirts.
I use this myself.
I like it very much.

The link below has HF frequency modifications, using the SSB shape factor
while on CW (gives a wider passband but still sharp at the center) and other
mods. Also the controversial (because some say it doesn't exist) mod that
says it cures the radio from hearing rumble on SSB and clicks on CW. I
recommend reading the other articles because it may well be that the
receiver is actually hearing what is there, but because this receiver is so
much more selective, we've never been able to hear it before.
