Nothing what-so-ever to do with CW, nothing at all Andrew... that's what
the preface "OT" means. You did read that didn't you? You know: "Off
Topic". Perhaps you should take better care to notice what is in a given
title.
Even if it DID turn out to be yet another urban legend, I found it
interesting just to know Lee Marvin was a Marine, and that he is buried in
Arlington.
Of course, that's the point in having an accepted practice that most people
follow and recognize. If one sees the letters "OT" one has the OPTION of
NOT reading the message. If, on the other hand, one DOES accept the option,
and read the message, one still might not find it interesting, but that
goes with the territory when an email title is labelled with "OT: FWD:
Captain Kangaroo" as mine did; and begins with: "I know this is totally
OT... " as mine did.
As manager of this list, I do not ENCOURAGE "OT" remarks, but then, I do
not DISCOURAGE them particularly either. You just never know when one might
be interesting. If they are off-color, or rude, I can-as manager-deal with
that. If they are sufficiently inane that I feel they REALLY weren't called
for, I will-courteously I hope-PRIVATELY suggest to the 'author' that
perhaps they didn't belong on [CW]. If they are simply not interesting to
me, I just keep my mouth shut.
Does that answer your question?
