[CW] Origin of 'ES'?

As others have noted, "es" is actually a "continetalization" of the American 
Morse for "&".

And "&" is not alone. At least one other American Morse symbols made their 
way into common radio use:

The ending signal "VA" (didididahdidah) is actually a corruption of the 
American Morse for the number "30" (didididahdit daaaah). "30" is a Phillips 
abbreviation for "end of work".

Any others?
