Ken, you get 10 points for this idea, we can accomplish this as many ways as
there are cw operators. Some by RF others by IR, both require power, each has
an advantages and disadvantages.
IR means no antenna or RF interference, RF means the IR line of site is not
necessary, the key could be anywhere around the rig.
One important thing to think about is: we can combine the keyer chip and the
"transmitter" into the key, and send one signal instead of DOT and DASH as two
separate signals. (1 kHz and 3 kHz) The key does not have to be battery operated
to give is an improved freedom, the power wire from the wall wart can go anywhere,
it won't have to go to the rig. This is important in my crowded den, where the
coily cord has to go across my writhing area from the left to get to my right
hand, and the speed control will be at the key.
(this will also allow a straight key to be connected at the output of the keyer)
   Great idea!
