Just downloaded and copied subj message by hand.  By my figures, using words at 6 characters average- with spaces counted - I am getting 21 to 22 wpm for several sections of the message.   Very good copy, but the speed would have to be almost doubled in order to obtain "use certification" to use a speed key in transmitting messages for US government employees, at least when I last certified back in the 70s.  One of the problems with these keyers is that they "NEVER" were supplied with enough weight added to the swing arm, in order to slow the dits down to an appropriate speed, for anything less than about 35-40 wpm.  We always used a "double" (read two) weight to slow the dits down, and moved them far out to the end of the arm.  No matter how well one can send with them, you can always tell that the sender is using this type of key, and within a day or two, can identify which operater is on the key. They sure did help move the traffic.
