   It does prove commitment and has the rub off effect (through the
time it takes to learn the code) of teaching the rules that apply
to all of HAM radio, listen BEFORE you transmit etc.

   But CW is THE ROOTS of HAM radio, why should we run from that?
If you don't want to do it fine, but learn enough to try, learn our
history and jargon also.
