Mike es Werner, you are dead on here. My advise, and this is from a former Navy
RM, is to use the single lever paddle. Now, all rigs don't have this feature,
but my Icom IC-746PRO has a variety of keyer settings, you can use "elect-key"
(both dashes and dots automatically) "bug-key" (just like a bug, dots are auto,
dashes manual, and "straight", where you can plug the trusty old J38 into the
jack and get a glass arm quickly....hi....
I use the bug-key settings, or just go to "straight" and put my lightning bug in
there. I, personally, find myself fighting the keyer, because I am used to
sending the dashes manually, for a heck of a lot of years, and have a real
problem, even with a single paddle, forget double..... Incidentally, everyone
"hits the wall" at a certain speed and gets stuck there...I had a concussion
from an automobile accident in '99 and it really messed up my copying for a
while...I'm still getting it back...just keep at it, I try to do about 1/2 hour
a day at least of either just copying qso's, or sending news articles to
myself....
