Greetings to everyone in the Nevada Section!

December was a pretty slow month for most of us with the holidays, parties,
traveling and houses full of in-laws we haven't seen since last year!

Assistant Section Manager (ASM) Gary Hartman KK7LV <[email protected]> reports
that he managed to attend most of the local southern club Christmas parties
with the exception of the Las Vegas Repeater Association (LVRA)
<http://www.hxo.com/>. The LVRA got even with him, however, by electing him
club Secretary. I'll bet he makes their party next year!

The Frontier Amateur Radio Society (FARS) reports progress is being made on
their long-anticipated web site and they are already making plans to cooperate
with other area clubs to put together a combined ARRL Field Day 2004. FARS
President Al Olcott K7ICW <[email protected]> has an enthusiastic crew of members
and officers as their rebuilding efforts continue.

Southern District Emergency Coordinator Glenn Hale KB7REO
<[email protected]> reports that much effort continues toward the goal of
linking the Nevada Section on IRLP and Echolink. Glenn and Technical
Coordinator Kent Johnson W7AOR <[email protected]> have been working with
Section Traffic Manager Matt Parker N7TOD <[email protected]> to improve ways of
conferencing Echolink and IRLP nodes to the NARRI system.

Clark County Emergency Coordinator Charlie Kunz AA5QJ <[email protected]> reports
that members of ARES/RACES participated in SKYWARN Recognition Day on
Saturday, December 6th. The Las Vegas Radio Amateur Club (LVRAC)
<http://www.lvrac.org/> communications trailer was deployed to the National
Weather Service Office.

The Sierra Nevada Amateur Radio Society (SNARS) <http://www.snars.org>
presented its annual Bob Davis K7IY Memorial Award to Washoe County Emergency
Coordinator Doug Abramson KA7FOO <[email protected]> for his outstanding
service to the club during the past year. The award is named after Bob Davis
K7IY (SK) who was a long-time SNARS member and ARRL Nevada Section Manager
from 1997-1999.

The Carson Valley Radio Club (CVRC) <http://www.cvrc.net/> is planning to hold
a free limited-enrollment Amateur Extra upgrade class starting January 22. The
three month evening class will culminated in a public VE session. Two years
ago a similar class resulted in 13 of 15 students receiving their Extra Class
licenses. The first 15 amateurs to apply are welcome to attend.

As we enter the New Year, clubs all around the section are welcoming new
officers to lead them through 2004. The next time you see one of your club
officers, walk up to them and thank them for making amateur radio a better
place for all of us.

It is always distressing to learn when some of our own are not doing well, but
I have recently learned that Sue Pfeiffer N7PRF is in poor health. Both Sue
and her OM Bruce N7CPP <[email protected]> are ARRL Life Members and long-time
local club supporters. Please keep both of them in your thoughts and prayers.

For a current list of all ARRL Nevada Section Field Appointments, you can
always check http://www.pdarrl.org/nevsec/officers.html.

Please send me your concerns, opinions, questions and newsletters.

73, Dick K7VC <[email protected]>
Nevada Section Manager
