Greetings to all -

This message is to notify everyone that after just over one year of
operation, the Reno Area SKYWARN net will cease operation next month.
The last net will be called on Wednesday evening, December 3.

In its period of operation, the net has helped increase awareness among
hams regarding our support for the SKYWARN program and has experienced
fair participation from a group of enthusiastic regulars. What has
failed to come together in this time, however, is a cadre of net control
stations and stations to act as liaisons with the HF Regional Weather
Spotter Net (now including weather spotters representing the Medford,
Reno, Eureka, and Sacramento NWS offices.) I will no longer be
available as either net control or liaison on Wednesday nights after
December 3, and so...the conclusion is obvious.

I did consider moving our local net to another night. However, a
primary purpose of the local net was to increase participation from
stations active in the Reno CWFA with the Regional net via relay.
Without the direct connection interacting with the Regional net on
Wednedays, that purpose is substantially diminished.

Thanks to all who have participated in the net over the past year for
your support. For those able, I urge you to continue checking into the
Regional Weather Spotter Net Wednesday evenings at 7:15 P.M. and, as per
the protocol of that net, call periodically for relays from the local
area on 146.52 and/or 146.55 simplex. As the SNARS Repeater systems
will soon fall silent on Wednesday evenings, please stay tuned to the
Western Nevada Noon Net, the Washoe County Amateur Radio Emergency Net
Thursdays at 7 P.M., and the Reno SKYWARN Web Site/E-mail list for
continued developments regarding amateur radio support for the SKYWARN
program in Northwestern Nevada and Northeastern California.
