Special Weather Statement
400 am PST Wed Nov 5 2003

...Valley rain and mountain snow possible for the Sierra and western
Nevada this weekend...

A large area of low pressure is expected to develop over the Pacific
later today and reach the California coast on Thursday. As this
system approaches...warm and moist air will move north into the
Sierra and western Nevada Thursday night and remain over the area
through Sunday. By Friday morning snow levels are expected to
increase to 6500 to 7500 feet.

Rain and mountain snow is likely Friday through Sunday as the low
slowly moves onshore. Due to the warm air the potential for
significant snow accumulations is limited to elevations above 7000
feet.

If you plan to travel through the Sierra and western Nevada this
weekend...prepare for wet roads and hazardous winter weather in the
passes above 7000 feet. Travelers and residents are urged to
monitor forecasts and additional statements from the National
Weather Service on this developing situation. Weather information
is also available on the internet at weather.Gov.
