Flood Watch
1015 am PDT Wed Jul 23 2003

Updated to extend watch until 9 PM PDT

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the
east slopes of the Sierra...northeast California and extreme western
Nevada until 900 PM PDT.

Abundant moisture and unstable conditions will combine to create
the potential for flash flooding this afternoon. Showers and
thunderstorms will develop in the moist and unstable air
today...with periods of heavy rain expected during the afternoon and
evening hours. With light winds aloft...showers and thunderstorms
will remain nearly stationary allowing heavy rain to accumulate in a
short period of time.

A Flash Flood Watch means that flooding of urban areas...small
streams...creeks...burn areas...steep slopes and narrow canyons is
possible within the watch area. People should keep an eye on the
weather and be prepared for immediate action if heavy rains and
flooding occur or a Flash Flood Warning be issued. Remember...a
watch means that flooding is possible but not imminent.

Expires:240400 gmt
