SUPER TYPHOON PONGSONA
All are invited to attend the special meeting Thursday, January 30
starting at 7:00 PM at KNPB Channel 5 Community Room as Bruce Wade N7ZA
shares his recent experiences volunteering for the Red Cross during this
devastating disaster on the Island of Guam.
Bruce will show his pictures taken during his stay on the island.
Also, Dick Flanagan W6OLD our new Nevada ARRL SCM will be present to
answer questions and tell about his new assignment.
KNPB Channel 5 is located at 1670 N. Virginia St. on the campus of UNR.

ABOUT BRUCE WADE, N7ZA
After 28 year as an electrical Engineer in the Aerospace Industry, Bruce
retired in 1990. Since then he has volunteered for the American Red Cross
(ARC) and the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES). He has held several
positions in both organizations, such as, District Emergency Coordinator
for ARES and a Disaster Action Team Leader for the ARC. He also has held
leadership positions in the Boy Scouts, a Horseman's Associations and a
Conference Grounds. He is a senior volunteer for Reno PD. He has been the
custodian of several Amateur Radio Stations owned by government agencies.
When not volunteering he enjoys hunting, fishing, chasing DX and
woodworking.
His first experience with the ARC was in the Oakland Hills Fire as a radio
op and assistant shelter manager. Presently he is member of a group of
volunteers and staff that are assigned to national relief efforts for the
ARC. His function is government Liaison. He helps coordinate the relief
effort with local, state and federal agencies. In 2002 he went on 8
different assignments. In December he went to Guam to assist in the relief
effort from Supertyphoon Pongsona. With winds measured at 195 mph, the
devastation was wide spread.
Thursday Jan 30 he will give a presentation of his experiences on that
assignment.
