Greetings to everyone in the Nevada Section!

Assistant Section Manager (ASM) Gary Hartman KK7LV <[email protected]> reports
the Las Vegas Repeater Association (LVRA) <http://www.hxo.com/> put on a
communications demonstration for the City of Boulder City. This was part of
their annual Homeland Security show they put on for the community. They had
several local officials and one State Assemblyman attend.

Gary Hartman also reports there is continuing activity toward new amateur
radio clubs in the Moapa Valley. In addition to the new club getting started
in Logandale, it appears we may have another one springing up in Mesquite.
Gary is reporting a high level of enthusiasm throughout the area and he will
be following up to provide whatever assistance he and ARRL can.

The Frontier Amateur Radio Society (FARS) is putting together a new Special
Interest Group (SIG) for High Frequency radio usage. Hal Waite K3AB
<[email protected]> proposed the concept of more advocacy of HF operation.
This would be for further education of their club members and other interested
persons and clubs in basic and advanced principles of HF radio.

Southern District Emergency Coordinator Glenn Hale KB7REO
<[email protected]> visited and met Lincoln County Emergency Coordinator
Lee Hone K7NKH <[email protected]> for the first time. They discussed Lee's
interest in finding a repeater site in the Caliente area to help improve
coverage. Lee needs to use a mobile base station to reach the Highland Peak
repeater from Pioche.

The Sierra Nevada Amateur Radio Society (SNARS) <http://www.snars.org>
continues to lead the northern half of the state when it comes to levels of
activity: licensing exams, code classes, SKYWARN activities, off-road races
and a terrific new "Town Hall" idea where the entire amateur community, old
and new, gets together to discuss ideas, problems and solutions.

The Elko Amateur Radio Club (EARC) <http://www.qsl.net/w7lko/> is another club
with a lot of recent activity reported regarding the recent Simulated
Emergency Test (SET) and the September VHF QSO Contest. A long-time supporter
of ARRL, this Special Service Club's newsletter can always be counted on to
contain a prominent ARRL membership application!

The Carson Valley Radio Club (CVRC) <http://www.cvrc.net/> is planning to hold
a free limited-enrollment Amateur Extra upgrade class starting January 22. The
three month evening class will culminated in a public VE session. Two years
ago a similar class resulted in 13 of 15 students receiving their Extra Class
licenses. The first 15 amateurs to apply are welcome to attend.

Congratulations go out to two brand new Official Emergency Stations (OES):
Scott Sproul KD7SIX <[email protected]> and Jack Cook N8RRL <[email protected]>.
OES appointments are for the best of the best and all ARES members are
encouraged to work towards an appointment. Information on the OES appointment
can be found at http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/org/oes.html.

For a current list of all ARRL Nevada Section Field Appointments, you can
always check http://www.pdarrl.org/nevsec/officers.html.

Please send me your concerns, opinions, questions and newsletters. Until next
month,

73, Dick K7VC <[email protected]>
Nevada Section Manager
