Flood Watch
520 PM PDT Mon Aug 4 2003

...A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for south central Washoe
County through 6 PM...

Very heavy rain and hail up to 1/2 inch in diameter has fallen on
the Geiger grade and in Virginia City...with minor flooding
reported.

This storm will move north and cross Interstate 80 east of Sparks to
west of Wadsworth between 520 and 545 PM. Flooding from an earlier
storm was reported around mile marker 33 and 34 on Interstate 80 and
this storm is expected to move across the same area...resulting in
potentially more severe flooding. An additional 0.50 to 1 inch of
rain is likely to occur in less than 1/2 hour with this storm.
Travel is not recommended on Interstate 80 east of Sparks until this
storm passes through and water on the road subsides. Do not attempt
to drive across flooded roadways.

Additional heavy rainfall up to 1 inch will occur along the
northwest shore of Pyramid Lake through 545 PM.

Excessive runoff from these storms will cause flooding of creeks and
streams...roads and roadside culverts. The heavy rains could also
trigger rock and mudslides in steep terrain especially on the Geiger
grade and portions of Interstate 80 east of Sparks.
