June 8-10 Elko VHF QSO Party
BJ Norton - KD7MIR and Dave - W7GK are in process of putting a QSO Party
together for the ARRL VHF Contest 8-10 June. Here's the big chance to
experiment on VHF/UHF with CW and SSB. This weekend we know there will be
significant amateur activity on the bands.
BJ has scouted some sites, but yet none has been selected. Possibilities
are the peak on the west side of Lamoille Hwy, southwesterly of Lamoille
Summit. Others are the Adobe repeater site or Elko Mtn. Harrison Pass was
omitted due to road construction.
The party is not a club sponsored event, but anyone and everyone interested
in VHF/UHF amateur communications is encouraged to visit and share in the
fun. We'll be using personal callsigns and everyone is welcome to participate.
Antenna plans include errecting BJ's tri-band Cushcraft yagi for 6 thru
3/4mtrs. and Dave's dual band yagi for 2 & 3/4. Modes will generally be SSB
and CW. Both BJ and Dave will bring their all mode, multi-band rigs.
Leaflets have been circulated for posting at AES in Las Vegas, HRO in
California and in Salt Lake City and a bulletin fired off to Dick, W6OLD in
Reno for posting in the NV Section News so others know Elko County will be
up and running.
Planned hours for the QSO Party are tentatively from Noon until 1900,
Saturday the 8th. Listen on the local repeaters or get in touch with BJ or
Dave for more details as they become available.
