Hello -
As you all know, it has been proposed to move
ARRL contest line scores from QST to the web.
A decision on this matter is to be made at the
ARRL Board meeting in July. In order to help
with this decision I would like to get a better feeling
for several topics among contesters in the Pacific
Division. I'd very much appreciate having replies
back from you folks on the following questions.
I plan to post a summary of these responses in a
week or two, once replies have stopped coming
in. I will NOT identify any of the respondents.
Please reply to me at [email protected]
All of you have email access, of course, or you
wouldn't be reading this. I'd like to know more
about that access.
1. Where do you read email?
Home___ Work___ Both___
2. Do you have also have web access?
Yes___ No___
3. If your answer to question 2 is "yes," where do
you have that web access?
Home___ Work___ Both___
4. If your answer to question 2 is "yes," I would like to
know how proficient you consider yourself. For example,
How often to you use search engines?
Daily___ Weekly ___ Monthly ___ Never ___
How often do you visit any contest-related web site?
Daily___ Weekly ___ Monthly ___ Never ___
How often do you visit the ARRL web site?
Daily___ Weekly ___ Monthly ___ Never ___
4. Do you use a computer for contest logging?
Yes___ No___
5. A proposal has been made to move contest line
scores (the tabular results data, not the textual reports)
from QST to the web. The reason for this proposal is
primarily economics - ham radio business is in a slump,
advertising revenues for QST are down, and something
has to be cut from QST to balance the books. Two
regular features of QST that have low readership and
high cost are Section News and Contest results. Do you
agree or disagree with the proposal to move contest line
scores from QST to the web?
Agree___ Disagree___
Other comments would also be welcome.
Many thanks in advance!
