Special Weather Statement
315 am PDT Fri Jun 7 2002

...Much cooler and windy weather for the Sierra and western Nevada
this weekend...

A cold low pressure system over western Canada will drop south into
the Great Basin this weekend spreading much cooler air into the
Sierra and western Nevada. Daytime temperatures by Sunday will be
25-30 degrees cooler than the unseasonably warm readings of the past
couple of days. Local frost is possible in the Sierra and colder
valleys of northwest Nevada Sunday night.

Gusty westerly winds in the 15-30 mph range with locally higher
gusts will develop by this afternoon. Winds will become northwest
and decrease a little late tonight then increase to 15-30 mph on
Saturday as cooler air spreads into the area.

Moisture is limited with the low pressure system and only a slight
chance of showers is expected across extreme northern and west
central Nevada Saturday night and Sunday morning. But the system
will be cold enough to lower snow levels to around 5000 feet.

The low pressure system will move east of the area by Monday with
temperatures back to seasonal normals by Tuesday.
