[CVRC] Douglas county regulations?

Dick,
Thanks for the quick response!
The lot is approximately 175' wide. The depth from the back of the house to
the boundary fence is a bit over 200'. From the front of the house to the
street is about 70'. The total area is ~1.4 acres. I was planning to put
the mast well back in the "back 40", and putting up a doublet fed by ladder
line. Even if the 50' mast fell over it couldn't reach the fence on either
side of the property!
I found 50' masts for sale for less than $200. These are intended for
mounting antennas for wireless DSL. They are pushups, guyed every 10 feet.
Given that I'm only going to hang a dipole from the mast I figured that
guying at 10', 30' and 50' would be sufficient. I'd place three sets of guys
around the mast (120 degree separation), anchored 40' out from the mast. In
theory, I could use the dipole as part of the guy system, but I think I'd
rather have a complete set of guys so I can raise and lower the antenna and
maybe swap out antennas as I experiment :-)
The doublet (as an inverted V) would be roughly 130' total length, feed by
450 ohm ladder line, to a 4:1 balun, then coax into the shack, to the MFJ
969. The apex would be at about 49' AGL, the ends around 15' AGL. I'll put
up a short (20') PVC mast at the shack to support the balun and to keep the
feed line above the back yard (and out of reach!).
BTW, I did go back and dig out the article in the CVRC newsletter about the
county regs. I was hoping that perhaps things would have settled down by
now. However, we _are_ dealing with the government!
What do you think - can I do this and not get hassled?
Cheers,
Bob N6YMA

Hi, Bob.
What size lot do you have? How far from your property lines do you plan to
put the mast? The Douglas County tower requirements are in the process of
changing, but currently they require a max height of 35 feet and a 50 foot
set-back. Now these are for permanent towers.
For a "temporary mast" I would not even bother with the County as it is
doubtful they would even consider it a structure. I think you are fine
until you plan on putting up a permanent tower and by that time the County
rules should be in reasonable shape.
