Special Weather Statement
1000 am PST Tue Dec 10 2002

...A major change in the weather pattern could bring heavy snow to
the Sierra by this weekend and strong winds to western Nevada...

A strong Pacific jet is expected to reach the west coast by this
weekend and bring a series of storms to northeast California...the
eastern Sierra...and western Nevada. The first storm is expected to
arrive Friday night into Saturday and could produce heavy snow in
the Sierra including the Lake Tahoe basin. Additional storms may
follow this initial system from Sunday through early next week.
Significant snowfall accumulations are possible in the higher
elevations. Strong southwest winds are expected to accompany this
storm pattern across the Sierra and most areas in western Nevada
beginning late Friday.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and other local media for further
details or updates on this upcoming weather change.
