Hello All,

The SNARS monthly breakfast for December will be this coming Saturday, the
7th, at 7:30 A.M. Location is the back room of Denny's at I-80 and
McCarran in Sparks. This will also be the club's December business
meeting. Hope to see you all there.

I would also like to make everyone aware that December 7 is SKYWARN
Recognition Day. This is a national special event taking place from
0000Z-2400Z on the 7th, which is 4:00 P.M. Friday through 4:00 P.M.
Saturday for our time zone. Amateur equipment in addition to that
permanently installed at the Reno National Weather Service Forecast Office
will be set up and operated throughout the 24 hour duration of the
event. This event is in its fourth year and was established to celebrate
the contribution that amateur operators make to the SKYWARN severe weather
spotter program. We will be enjoying some good operating time from a great
location (panoramic view of the Truckee Meadows) while attempting to
contact as many of the 105 other NWS Offices participating using a variety
of bands and modes. This is the first year that all three Nevada NWS
Offices will be participating.

This event has been tremendous fun during the past two years that Reno has
participated and promises to be the same again this year. EVERYONE is
welcome to come by the office for a visit and to operate with us. Like
Field Day, this event is a good opportunity for Technician class hams
without HF operating priveleges and prospective hams not yet licensed to
get some experience in this type of operation under the supervision of
control operators. Plan to come by sometime during the event and join in
the fun!

Matt Parker, N7TOD
