Of course the rig, amplifier and antenna belongs to Bob, W4DR, who kindly let me use my call in this contest! All I added was a little 12 hour stint in a chair in front of his outstanding station. Of course Murphy made his appearance. I never could figure out how to get his computer to key his FTDX-5000! I even tried my Winkeyer USB but no luck. So I plugged in my Begali paddle, given to me by FOC a few years back, and sent every CQ, every call and report, every W4PM with that fine paddle and the rig's internal keyer. That to me was really old school contesting - not even a memory keyer! You say the rig may have message memories - HAH try find them in that encyclopedia of an owners manual! I seldom had to call anyone more than once and my CQ's generated lots of attention. I even had mini-pileups of EU stations calling me at times. That has never happened to me before! Checking N1MM statistics, I even had one hour in which I put 120 stations in the log. That's not a big deal for a hot op and maybe SO2R but for this old man with one radio it was flying (and remember no computer and N1MM to help me send). > > Results on the first night: > 736 Q's, 120 multipliers, and 56 FOC members worked. In addition I know N3UA, KG4W, K4OSO and WB3D were also active from their home stations.? I look forward to receiving your scores in a format like the above.? If you want me to send in your log e-mail your Cabrillo file to me.? If you send in your own make sure "Central Virginia Contest Club" is included in the heading of the log. Again thanks to BOB E for letting me use my call at his station.? Using W4PM with that antenna was a thrill!? And thanks to Jonathan for letting Milt and I play with his GREAT new station.? That FTDX-101D and the Elecraft amp are outstanding.? His? wire way up in the sky does work very well too.? It was fun using W4MYA on the air in honor of Bob "the Dude" Morris.? I had a number of stations send RIP or Dude with their exchange!? On SSB next weekend the call should be even more recognized. ? I think we will have a small club score that will be very hard to beat! Murphy was with us this year BUT we made it through.? Both Milt and I had to resort to manual keying but we persevered.? The problem at W4HZ was identified and cured the 2nd night.? Hopefully Sejo was able to get W4DR's station keying via computer properly the 2nd night there. Thanks to all who participated in this Club effort.? I think we all did GOOD! ? AND also thanks to Ronnie for sending the member list to ARRL so our logs would count for the club - VERY IMPORTANT! The ARRL 10 Meter is next weekend and current plans are for 2 multi-single stations again.? I am having second thoughts about? operating two 12 hour or longer shifts for this one. I just getting too old to do it.? Perhaps we could just do a SSB only day at W4DR and split up the SSB day into more than one shift.? That way Sejo could do CW the first day, and others could do SSB in shifts and I need not operate at W4DR at all?? VOLUNTEERS speak up NOW.? Of course W4DR and Sejo have to agree to this too. 73,Puck W4PM ??? My station is available for the 10 meter contest both days. I am happy with any combination of operators who will keep it on the air. Any CVCC member is welcome to come and operate. We will probably use the W4MYA call for this one. I do want us to enter as a mixed mode as this greatly expands our score and our goal has always been to win the small club category. I personally will not operate as my hearing is too impaired. It would be great if Sejo was the first operator to assure that that the CW function was working properly as it was the second night here. Thanks for all your contest efforts the last few weekends. I really missed playing in both. My inv-l got all busted up just the week before the 160 contest and having just acquired a hernia, I was unable to put in the effort required to put another up. After my surgery on Thursday, I was in no shape to sit in a chair and play in the 10m. Congrats to all the scores you achieved! I hope we have some more wins from it! I'm still on the hunt for our ARRL 2018 10M Gavel from last year's win. I'm waiting to hear back from the league that they were definitely shipped. I think we received it and handed it out at a meeting, but have no recollection of that happening and if it did, to whom the gavel went. Please take time to look through any gavels you may have and let me know if you find it. I have received the annual renewal notice for our website hosting with QTH - $59.40. It seems anyone change your address at the post office either in person or by using an online form! N0 form of ID is required. The Post Office will not help you if you have this happen to you! I don't understand how the PO could allow this to happen. So if your mail starts not showing up, FIND out immediately why? The neighbor said I could shorten it, but the information is to valuable to ignore. A local resident went to the Post Office only to find out that their mail had been forwarded almost 2 weeks before. Postal Supervisor would only tell them the city and state on the forwarding but not the address and wouldn?t let them see the form. In this case, the Supervisor said he couldn?t read the signature but would not allow the person to see it. > > As it turns out anyone can go on line, without any form of identification, and frau!dulently forward one?s mail to whatever city and state they choose. Then all one?s regular mail, packages, medicines, paper statements > from credit cards, banks, investments, insurance cards, Christmas cards, everything is now in the hands of the person at the forwarded address. They have now in effect stolen your identity and your life. They can then open checking accounts, credit cards, etc. in your name, withdraw money from your savings, add new email addresses to your accounts, etc. And in this case, all your Christmas presents ordered on line have now gone to wherever. They start this the day they put in your forwarding address, hoping you won?t discover this for weeks. > > > > > > > > > > From wu4g at comcast.net Mon Dec 30 21:24:56 2019 From: wu4g at comcast.net (Ronnie Bolton) Date: Mon, 30 Dec 2019 21:24:56 -0500 Subject: [CVCC] 2020 - Jan 7 - 1st meeting of the year Message-ID: <015501d5bf81$7eec4f00$7cc4ed00$@comcast.net> Hi All, It's that time again. Let's meet at Vinny's, consume mass quantities, and have a few discussions about upcoming contest opportunities. Namely the ARRL RTTY Roundup, and then there's the NAQP CW, RTTY and SSB parties where we used Dude so much that one person thought he was being called a Dude. Then there's the Frostfest on Feb 1. Bought your ticket yet? I have. I am not planning on having a table this year. I don't have anything worth selling to offset the new $40 table fee. I don't know if they are still offering free club tables (no sales allowed), but if we do, my time at it will be very limited. We can discuss. Later in February is our last chance to make big noises for a gavel in the ARRL DX CW and SSB tests. After that the political fray will probably raise the noise level above S9 on all bands except in Iowa where it will be 20 over, or maybe 30 over depending on how many candidates have jumped in. If you haven't looked recently, I posted some of our contest accomplishments from over the years on our website. Most are for the CQ contests, but W4DR is bringing me his ARRL tabulations for me to include there. I removed the DXTotals listing as we have not done that for quite a few years now and it was very dated. If there is any interest in just compiling those numbers for us to just compare, let me know, I'll see if I can figure out how to collect and post. Of course, CVCC member Bill Nighman (SK) would respond with "Who needs it!" 73 and see you at Vinny's on Jan 7 at 7 pm. I'm hoping to convince a new ham (or prospective one if he hasn't taken his test yet) to come. He has a competitive bone in every arm and leg from what I've seen so I'm hoping we can train him before he becomes tainted on VHF FM. He also loves to shoot so what's not to like?
