If you can help me with this please respond directly to me.

I want to set up a wireless network in my home so Judy can use a laptop computer on the internet and not tie up my computer here in the shack.

I currently have Comcast Cable service which provides me digital voice, high speed internet and digital TV service. The cable comes to my shack and into an RCA cable modem. This modem spilts out the high speed internet which it routed via an ethernet connection to my computer. It also send the telephone service to my house telephone wiring from here in the shack.

I have a Parker Vision Signal Max four port DSL/Cable router in a box here that I won as a raffle prize at the FOC DC dinner a couple of years ago. Judy's laptop computer is an older Compaq Presario with an AMD-K6 processor running at 328 mHz, 160MB of memory and a 3 GB hard drive. It's operating system is Windows 98. It has no wireless card.

The questions:

How and where do you hook the wireless router into my system?

Can the old Compaq laptop be used if I can find a wireless card to plug into the little card slot on the side. I'm not sure such a thing is available. Perhaps I need to get a more up to date computer which has a wireless card built in? If so, does anyone have a bit more up to date computer that runs Windows XP and has wireless network cabablilty that you would like to sell? I really don't want to go to Windows Vista if at all possible and all the new ones have that installed.

How difficult is this type thing to set up?

Any other information or suggestions you might have for me would be greatly appreciated.

I have enough computer system knowledge to be dangerous.

Puck, W4PM
