Top Ten Ways to Help PVRC Win Back the Gavel!

10. Get on the air for the contest. No QSO’s means no score.

9. Submit your log to the ARRL (ssphone at arrl.org) well BEFORE
Wednesday, December 20 and indicate “Potomac Valley Radio Club”
as your club affiliation – NOT PVRC!

8. Run high power if you can to maximize your score

7. Go “Unlimited” and make lots of packet spots

6. Be an “HMO” (Highly Motivated Operator) and operate using
two or more callsigns from different locations! Be sure to use a
unique transmitter!

5. If you only have a few hours, get on Sunday afternoon or
evening and RUN. You will be “fresh meat” and can enjoy high
rates even with a modest station.

4. Be ACCURATE! A callsign mistake costs the QSO and two more.
An exchange mistake costs the QSO. Either can lose a multiplier.
90% of your QSO's will probably be checked.

3. Concentrate on rate. Multipliers will come with QSO totals.
(For a big log (1400 QSO’s), a multiplier is worth about 18
QSO’s. For a 500 QSO log, a multiplier is worth only about 6 QSO’s)

2. Know your station and concentrate on the band with the best
performance to the population centers: Il, Va, and Oh were the
biggest for me last year. Also consider Mn, Mi, Nc, Mdc, Scv.
With the push by NCCC, California is more important this year.

And the NUMBER ONE way to help PVRC Win Back the Gavel:

1. Keep your butt in the chair for 24 hours. Watch that your
breaks are at least 31 minutes long!

73,

Mark, KD4D
