Subject: Virginia's 400th

To: All Affiliated Clubs of Virginia

The year 2007 will be the 400th anniversary of the founding of Virginia and
Section Manager Glen Sage, W4GHS, has asked me to coordinate a year long
general QSO party for the state. A vision for this event expressed by
several people is to have one or two stations on the air each weekend for
the entire year. Those clubs will conduct two or three sessions at
different times throughout the year. For instance, it might be appropriate
if the James Town party is held in January, as James Town was Virginia's
first settlement. The Pentagon might be an appropriate site in September in
remembrance of September 11, 2001.

Not only could this be a big boost for Ham Radio, but also such an event
might be an effective way to show off Virginia. I am open to all
suggestions. We would like to coordinate this project so that there will be
at least one or two clubs on the air each weekend rather than having 15
clubs working one weekend and none for the following three weekends.
Another idea that has been suggested is not only having individual qsl
cards, but also keeping a database. A certificate will be available for
having worked some portion of the stations (yet to be determined) and, of
course, a "worked them all certificate," suitable for framing, will also be
available.

I would also like to contact non-affiliated clubs but I will need your help
in that regard. Please forward your suggestions and any contact
information you can provide on non-affiliated clubs to me.
