We receive a a little news letter with each of our electric bills.
The last letter from Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO)
said, that they had completed hosting a BPL pilot test and are 
putting BPL on the shelf.  They did not mention the interference
problem.  The reasons, that they gave for not pursing BPL further,
were "safety concerns for SMECO lines men, impact on the Co-op 
standard construction practices, and the lack of a proven method
for delivering BPL signals via under ground power lines." 
Further, "BPL signals and bandwidths are not competitive with
other technologies  available."
